# Create and edit inventory types

An inventory type defines what is being counted and which characteristics distinguish its variants.

Choose the inventory category and unit of measure, then connect the parameters required for this type. A type can use up to the supported number of parameters configured by Inventory+.

For **List** parameters, select which values from the company-wide parameter directory are valid for this specific type. The directory may contain more values than this type uses.

Inventory types and parameters that are already part of accounting records must not be deleted in a way that would break existing variants. Resolve dependencies or make the relevant configuration inactive where required.
